Whats Bad: Outdated Drama, Irritating Comedy, Performances, Art Direction and Script

                                      (Script Analysis)
If you have watched original Himmatwala, then you will not find any surprise in new one. Story is almost same, with some unlogical twist. Sajid Khan has used revenge and lost and found formula, which is undigestable for today`s multiplexes audiences, who are fond of watching new gen cinema. Story turns arround
Ravi  (Ajay Devgan) who comes to Ramnagar to avenge the disgrace brought to his father, Dharam Murti (Anil Dhawan), years ago, by sarpanch Sher Singh (Mahesh Manjrekar), which had prompted him (father) to commit suicide. Ravi was a child then and had lived under the impression that his mother, Savitri, and sister were also dead but they had survived and were living in abject poverty on the outskirts of the village.

Ravi brings his mother (Zarina Wahab) and sister, Padma (Leena Jumani), back to their ancestral home in Ramnagar. But before that, he poses as a CBI officer from Delhi and threatens Sher Singh and his eccentric brother –in-law, Narayandas (Paresh Rawal).

As the drama progresses, Ravi falls in love with Rekha (Tamannah Bhatia), daughter of Sher Singh. Padma is in love with Shakti (Adhyayan Suman), son of Narayandas. Like a dutiful brother, Ravi gets Padma married to Shakti despite the fact that Sher Singh and Narayandas had led his father to end his life. But Padma soon realises her folly when Shakti and Narayandas torture her physically and mentally. They even ask her to tell Ravi to withdraw from the panchayat elections so that he would not be able to defeat Sher Singh who, in any case, is hated by the villagers who have been exploited by him (Sher Singh) over the years. Ravi wants to teach Shakti the lesson of his lifetime for torturing his sister but their mother won’t hear of taking any extreme steps against the son-in-law.

It is then that Rekha steps in and asks Ravi to use her to teach her father a lesson. Rekha pretends to be pregnant with Ravi’s child so that Sher Singh has no option but to plead with Ravi to marry Rekha so as to save the family honour. However, Ravi keeps putting conditions before Sher Singh  to agreeing to marry Rekha.

Then, Shakti overhears Rekha telling Ravi that he (Ravi) isn’t the real Ravi. Shakti spills the beans before his uncle, Sher Singh, who uses this piece of information to get back at Ravi. He exposes Ravi in front of the entire village. Ravi’s mother, Savitri, is shocked that the young man she had thought to be her son wasn’t her son. Meanwhile, Narayandas brings an army of street fighters to kill Ravi.

So what happens thereafter? Does Savitri forgive Ravi for this cheating? Do the street fighters kill Ravi? Does anyone come to Ravi’s rescue? Does Rekha support Ravi or her father? Does Padma support husband Shakti or brother Ravi? Screenplay of the film is penned by Sajid Khan and Sajid Farhad duo, who have written sucessfull films, like as Singham, Bol Bachchan and Golmaal Series. But this time, duo is failed to make an engaging screenplay for the film. Screenplay doesn`t help to make the plot strong. Sajid-Farhad`s dialogues are disappointing. Not even a single line, create any comic moment in the film. Dialogues are written without any logic. As an example we take, "Garibo ke paas toh do hi cheeje hoti hain, sir par izzat aur pairo mein chappal". Overall, script of the film is below to the mark.

                             (Star Performances)

There is no doubt that Ajay Devgn is an brilliant actor. But this time, he is not in his element. He almost failed to create humorous comedy as he did in his previous films. He is good in some action and emotional scenes, but his worst part is dance sequences, especially in 'Naino Mein Sapna'. Tamanna Bhatia is big disappoinment. We last seen her in 'Chand Sa Roshan Chehra', but that was not an commercial release. If Himmatwala is her debut, then it is dull debut as an leading lady in B-town. Only her sexy legs, worked in her side. Her dance is just okay. Paresh Raawal is top on the game. He has given his best as Narayandas. Mahesh Manjrekar failed to portarait the role of 'Sher Singh', as Amjad Khan did in 1983 film. Zarina Wahab is too melodramatic as Ravi`s mother. Adhyan Suman is brilliant as Shakti. Asrani also fails to entertain. Amruta Khanwilkar, Surveen Chawla, Mona Tripha, Rinku Ghosh and Sayantani Ghosh didn`t impress in their item number.
                                  (Music)
Sajid-Wajid`s music is ordinary. Naino Mein Sapna and Taki Re Taki are aquired from old film, but Sajid-Wajid has given a fresh feel to these songs. Sachin-Jigar`s Thank God its friday, is okay and dhokha dhokha is worst. So, composers failed to compose an rocking music for this masala flick.

                                    (Direction)
Sajid Khan has tried to create the era of 80`s , but he forgott the fact that audience has moved decades ahead. Sajid is known for his comic narration, but this time nothing is work in his side. He failed to give a small power to weak script with his direction.

                         (Last Word)
If you are fan of mindless formula films, then Himmatwala is made for you, otherwise there is nothing in the film which can entertain you.

                                   (Box Office Perdiction)
UTV has spent more than 60 crore rupees on the film, including production, promotion and prints. Film has taken very dull opening with 30% occupency in all arround the country. Himmatwala can be an harmfull product for UTV and Puja Films.
